Soooo Cal.

#2

The past few days have been so much more about comfort than about anything superfabulous.  However, sometimes that in itself can end up being superfabulous. I've been running around, a little tazmanian devil, and now it's friday and I have a moment to breathe. I went to Blockbuster and rented an obscene number of movies, (which I will be posting about later, of course!) and prepared myself for a weekend in.  Everyone needs that sometimes, you know?

The New Motif

So everyone, it's official--the star motif will probably become as ubiquitous as that Balenciaga equestrian-esque hat that was so popular a few seasons back (and practically drove me mad!).
Across fashion capitals, the star-print has been showing up on tons of runways.  This decidedly Americana symbol is something that I've avoided since the last fourth of July parade I was in in the 4th grade.
I'm thinking if I can find a cheaper (read: urban outfitters) version of these stars that maybe I could make them work, especially if they were white on black--however, the ethereal, wispy version marion cotillard is wearing in the top right is also a dream.
This dress that I came across on ebay could be really cute (minus the guitar necklace..) with some boots and a belt.

My Daily I(nspiration)

I guess some people would be annoyed with a computer on which they don't even know about all the features until a year after they've bought it. Me, I love it.  I just discovered this great collage-ing thing on my macbook and just went nuts. (...this list is going clockwise, from erin wasson on the left)
1. Erin Wasson's perfectly turquoise Wayfarers and midday margarita give off the summer vibe that I am yearning for.  I think she, as a style hero of mine, in combination with summer, wayfarers, and a great fedora, is kind of just my dream.
2. Sasha Pivovarova in "Eau de Rose" in Paris Vogue Mar 08.  She Worked (with a capital W!) this editorial in all its pink, girly, beachy fabulosity.
3.Ashley Olsen at a time when she still wore slouchy tops and skinny jeans with big chunky heels.  Well, I guess she still wears big chunky heels, but nowadays it's with pencil skirts and super-amazing, super-chic cardigans or tops from The Row or Elizabeth and James.  Still, I can't help but reminisce about the days of yore when her whole aesthetic was a bit more laid back.
4. Heels, heels heels. Marc Jacobs reverse heels. YSL's brand embroidered heels. Balenciga's...everythings.  These crazy platform heels caught my eye and inspired fashion fantasies that involved someone fabulous (iekeliene, perhaps?) running around with ease in these babies.
5. Lou Doillon is so fabulous and french it's practically ridiculous.  I stumbled across this picture of her with what looks like her mom's red lipstick, slightly high waisted simple jeans, a tattered tee, and some amazing hair accessory. And she looks really supremely amazing, and I think I just completely look up to her. Or, at least the way she dresses.

Hopefully I can make this a daily occasion, because I always enjoy figuring out what's driving me on each individual day--sometimes random things are actually main sources of my inspiration (Britney!?)...

Apple of My Eye

I've been oh-so busy recently but I manage to somehow always make time to shuffle around through the archives of the sartorialist--and as I was somewhere in between september and december, The Sartorialist himself made a great point about how sometimes, you don't need much more than a picture of a person's shoes to know a lot about them.  I guess I took things sort of far in wondering about these people.  2 editors at a fashion show, 2 lovers at a party, one super-daring young lady on the streets of New York. OR, 2 women running away from home, off to adventures; Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, me.
I love the potential and the stories that these pictures tell, who do you think they are?

All photos, the sartorialist.

Thai Food!

My favorite food in the world just might be Thai food.  As I frantically ran to the movie theater at 11:50 am to see the Academy Award Nominated Animated Short Films (what a mouthful!), I made frantic plans to get some delicious thai lunch with my mom.
A thai tea, spring roll, and shrimp salad later, I was off to the Academy Awards! (well, the version that takes place in the living room of my own home...)

And the Oscar Goes To...

As I prepared myself for tonights big 80th Annual Academy Awards and the mini-viewing party that I was throwing for my friends and I, I had one gal on my mind--the fabulously French Marion Cotillard.
I hummed along to Edith Piaf's reverberating tones all day long as I made final stops at Party City and Whole Foods Market for fruit and sparkling cider, and I made sure to visit thefashionspot and numerous articles around the web to see who was actually a contender for the prestigious Best Actress award.
And then finally tonight the moment came, and Marion's name was called and I couldn't be happier that she has achieved this grand success.  She is a beautiful dresser, and tends to go for chanel couture (and pulls it off!) and simple hair and makeup, but tonight she pulled out all the stops with a little John Paul Gaultier and movie siren-esque hairdo.
She shook as she thanked her director and fellow actors, and then went on to thank life and love, la vie, l'amour.

BoLeRo

I've been completely inspired by this old bolero I found in my closet. I dug it up after years of its gathering dust in the back of my closet and figured that it is the peeeerfect accesoire to make jeans a tee quite a bit nicer.

I wore my Spring Court shoes from Paris, aussi, hence the frenglish.

Recovery!

Quite Unfortunately, I've been sick with the flu for days!
I got sick last friday in class and have been kind of-sort-of-sick ever since...but now it's faded to a mere cough (still, no fun..)
But today, I'm resting, lunch, maybe seeing a friend who is in town.  goofy silly crazy...!

Marion Cotillard

TGIF

Today was highly inspiring. Fridays are always good days...with the weekend ahead, I tend to seize the end of my week with vigor!  I watched La Vie En Rose today (in french! with french subtitles! and got it!) and it was spectacular. Extreeeemely moving, and I wouldn't be surprised if marion cotillard went on to win best actress.
But, speaking of, I was wondering why La Vie En rose (a totally spoken-in-french movie) is nominated for best picture and not best foreign picture? I was suggesting that maybe it is because of American producers or sets? Let me know if you have any idea...
And as for what I was wearing, I just bought these fabulous shoes on ebay and got them last night. I built an outfit around it! (I'm obsessed with cuffing these J. Crew jeans, I know...)
The shirt is from the Target boys section, the necklace from India, and the little knit top is vintage.
